ZCIEA WOMEN DELEGATION EXCHANGE VISIT TO MALAWI
Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations(ZCIEA) Women Delegation visited Malawi Union for the Informal Sector (MUFIS) for an Exchange Visit Program from 9 October to 11 October 2017 in Blantyre. A total of 8 ZCIEA women Charity Mandishona National Women's Chair, Besnat Dube Vice National Women's Chair, Faith Gwangwara Marondera Territorial Women's Chair, Nyaradzo Tavarwisa Chitungwiza Territorial Women's Chair, Molly Mupasa Bindura Territorial President, Eunice Rwodzi Chivhu Territorial Women's Chair, Lydia Maphosa Plumtree Territorial President and Benneta Gonese Mutare Territorial President were received by Vice President of MUFIS comrade Gladys Mponda, Treasurer General comrade William Haji and National Organiser comrade Getrude Wikitani. The purpose of the exchange visit was to identify possible business collaborations, strengthening of business networks, learning how other women in the informal economy are doing their business and sharing of business ideas.
ZCIEA Membership is highly women and the organisation believes empowerment of women through these exchange visits initiatives will benefit them a lot in contributing towards sustainable economic and social development. Delegations from the two organisations ZCIEA and MUFIS visited Limbe Market and ZCIEA noted that the set up of Limbe Market was similar to Mbare Musika Market in Zimbabwe and also the challeges were the same. Therefore there is need to support each other in organising and lobbying for better working conditions.
ZCIEA and MUFIS shared on how they organise their membership, how they organise village savings and credit among their membership since it is not easy for informal economy workers to get loans from bank due to lack of collateral. MUFIS women learnt a lot from ZCIEA women and asked them to come to Malawi and train MUFIS on housing cooperatives if funds are available.
