Young people in the informal economy embrace technology through ICT training by ZCIEA

Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) has been conducting ICT empowerment training where 750 informal economy workers and traders benefited in 2018 alone.  Young People in the informal economy were the majority of beneficiaries of the ZCIEA ICT training. This initiative by ZCIEA also supports the National Development Strategy 1 which recognizes ICTs as key enablers of economic development.

Chipinge District Development Coordinator’s Office now recognizes ZCIEA operations in Chipinge

On the 20th of September 2021, ZCIEA Chipinge Territory officially engaged with the government offices in Chipinge to formalize operations of the organization in Chipinge.  The organization appreciates the Office of the District Development Coordinator for officially granting ZCIEA permission to operate in Chipinge. It is also good to note the Office of the District Development Coordinator requested all relevant stakeholders to engage as well as work with ZCIEA for the betterment of informal economy workers and traders’ livelihoods in Chipinge District.

ZCIEA strengthens the voice of informal economy workers by developing the formalization strategy in Zimbabwe.

On the 7th of September 2021, the Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Association (ZCIEA) in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) held a radio program on Formalization with Radio Zimbabwe. The program was aimed at awareness-raising on the need to recognize and formalize Informal economy activities. ZCIEA Masvingo People with Disability (PWD) chair Moses Chitombo, Sarudzai Dube Bulawayo Women’s Chair, and ZCIEA Information Officer Fungai Munetsi were interviewed.
