PRESS STATEMENT FROM INFORMAL ECONOMY TRADERS ASSOCIATIONS ON CUSHIONING FUND AND DEMOLITIONS

We the undersigned associations, concerned about the delays in the payments of the cushioning grants that was supposed to cushion vendors and informal traders; We call upon government through its relevant ministries to provide information on progress made so far. We also call on government through its relevant ministries to immediately release the cushioning fund as the situation is dire for many vendors and informal traders. We also call on government to state the proposed figures that will be disbursed.

ZCIEA Updates 21- 23 April 2020

In Chitungwiza Informal economy workers and traders were given verbal warning for demolition of stalls by the local authorities. This is said to be a directive from the central government.  Informal economy workers and traders started removing their wares and stalls from Monday 20th of April up to today 22nd of April 2020. Informal traders opted to dismantle their market stalls and tuckshops before the Municipal Police demolished them.

ZCIEA PRESS STATEMENT ON THE HORRIBLE DESTRUCTION OF VENDORS’ STALLS DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN

Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) is deeply saddened by the horrible, inhuman and ruthless destruction of vendors’ stalls in Kwekwe, Mbare, Machipisa and other areas by the local authorities. As an organization that works with and represents informal economy workers across 42 territories in Zimbabwe, ZCIEA sees this action as a silent form of harassment and torture of innocent citizens on informal economy trading for survival.

ZCIEA Gutu Youth in Farming Project

Six members of the ZCIEA Gutu territory youth structure joined together and started a farming project producing tomatoes, potatoes, and sugar beans. The group is led by Amos Masunda. Amongst the six are three men and three women based in Masunda village in Gutu Mupandawana near Chinyika Township.
