Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) represented the informal economy at the Gender Reform in the Transitional Stabilisation Program Meeting on the 7th of October 2019 at Bronte Hotel in Harare. The meeting was hosted by Women and Law in Southern Africa (WLSA)
Lorraine Sibanda from Zimbabwe talks about her engagement for women in the informal economy. Nearly all of Zimbabwe’s labour force works informally, meaning that their income generation is not regulated by the state, and the majority are women. These women often face poor working conditions, harassment and criminalisation. But there are success stories, too
ZCIEA National President Lorraine Sibanda who is also the StreetNet International President represented the Informal economy at the Global Labour University (Africa) Alumni Workshop on the 17th of September 2019. The theme of the workshop was: Neoliberal Capitalism Resurgence and Prospects of a Counter Movement in the Global South.
ZCIEA Chivhu Territorial Youth chairperson Tatenda Mangwiro joined ZCIEA in 2011. he was elected as Chivhu Territorial Youth Chair in 2015 and he will serve up to 2020.
Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) National President Lorraine Sibanda (also Streetnet International President) and ZCIEA Secretary General Wisborn Malaya representing Informal Economy at 108th Session of the International Labour Conference on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work from 10 June to 21 June 2019 in Geneva.
ZCIEA Secretary General conducted skills negotiation trainings from 27 to 29 March 2019 in Chegutu, Zvishavane, and Mashava. The training aimed to capacitate the local leaders and members to be able to lobby and advocate with local authorities, government arms and other key spaces at their local level. The trained members became equipped to address issues that affect them in a productive way
Mrs Mandishona the ZCIEA National Chairperson for Woman’s structure attended the 1ST Forum of Social Security Institutions in Africa Representing informal economy traders from the 29th – 30th of March 2019 in Ethiopia Addis Ababa.
